Welcome and thank you for your interest in The Museum of the San Ramon Valley’s fifth annual “Back to School Under the Stars” gala. We will be back, in person, at our beautiful and historic Tassajara Grammar School. After two years of a virtual event, we are happy to get to have this event in person.

Like everyone else, the museum is feeling its way back to things that we consider “normal”. Our school programs, including the living history program for third graders, here, at the school have returned. But we have had unfilled sessions since some schools couldn’t commit to field trips. Our popular monthly virtual speaker series is continuing to draw audiences, but we have not yet scheduled in person lectures. Our collections continue to grow as we collect and preserve historically important parts of Valley history. The museum’s exhibit schedule remains strong and popular. The museum is once again fully open so that visitors to the Depot can come and learn Valley history. We are moving ahead planning new, educational, and fun exhibits for this year and next.

As I mentioned last year, the heart and soul of any not-for-profit organization are the people that make up and support it. In our case, we have the support of generous donors, loyal members, and dedicated, talented, and hardworking volunteers and staff. You stayed with us during the dark days of the pandemic and thanks to you all, we continue to move ahead and do things that you can be proud of as we return to a more normal time.

Again, thank you for your support and I hope that you can join us for this event.

Tassajara One Room School Program

Every spring third graders from throughout the San Ramon Valley have the opportunity to participate in a living history program at the schoolhouse. School marms and school masters conduct an authentic 1888 school day.

In a program designed by Mistress and former teacher Joan Kurtz, the students use slates, learn to cipher, recite from a McGuffey Reader and play nineteenth century games. They dress in period clothes, tie their horses in the stable and eat farm lunches.
